Welcome to Carpe Diem et Noctem
Zettelwirtschaft (Paperwork management) for life crises
Carpe Diem et Noctem (cden) is an art project by Hannah and Ralf Moser. It aims to promote peaceful coexistence in diversity, based on the individual’s freedom of choice. It rejects the idea of a life that is determined by the meaning of life in favor of the idea of a life in which the meaning of life itself is chosen.
In our artistic practice, we place our trust in the power of systems thinking.
We explore the hidden cybernetic structures that underlie the processes of learning, art, culture, and life itself. Within these layered systems, the mind unfolds—thinking, creating, evolving.
Our art becomes a lens of insight.
Through it, we seek to illuminate and understand the dynamic flows and meta-levels that shape our world. By engaging with these structures, we open new pathways for perception, transformation, and creative discovery.
Our art begins where ideals, theories, and belief systems start shaping personal thought. Carpe Diem et Noctem is a collaborative project by Hannah and Ralf Moser – an invitation to encounter yourself, beyond norms, beyond expectations.
We ask questions, not for answers, but for reflection:
Who do I want to be?
How do I want to love, live, and choose?
How do I define the problem of my art – and of my life?
With a self-developed system, we explore the areas of life most influenced by cultural, scientific, and religious idealizations. Yet instead of offering doctrines, our art creates teachings that empower the self – even when it must stand apart from the collective.
Our art does not judge. It offers space.
Carpe Diem et Noctem – seize the day. And the night.
Note on the “Paperwork for Life Crises”
Our “Paperwork for Life Crises” is designed for those who want to face life’s challenges with a sense of humor. It’s for people who are ready to explore the meaning of life with curiosity, lightness, and a willingness to reflect.
But most importantly:
If you’re currently in an acute life crisis and feel like you can’t cope on your own, please seek professional help. Medical or therapeutic support is the right step in such moments—and it’s a sign of strength, not weakness.
Our paperwork can only be useful if you can smile at life – even when things aren’t going well.
For those who are ready:
There’s much to understand, much to decide—and much to gain.
The media library on meaning in life
Amid all the voices telling us who we should be, a quiet yet powerful movement begins: the journey inward – to where true freedom and self-determination take root.
The idea that everyone in a democracy can simply live as they choose sounds promising – but it overlooks how deeply the collective “we” seeks to shape the individual “I.”
It is not knowledge, but learning; not possessing, but acquiring; not being, but becoming, that gives the greatest pleasure.
Carl Friedrich Gauß
We are not what we know but what we are willing to learn.
Mary Catherine Bateson
This media library is not a place for idealizations or universal worldviews that everyone is expected to share. It is a space for orientation – a compass for those who dare to search for their own meaning. For all who have the courage to meet themselves – beyond expectations, dogmas, and ready-made answers.
But freedom comes at a cost.
When all you’re given is orientation, the rest is up to you – and that’s rarely comfortable. Meeting yourself, honestly and without illusion, is not a romantic journey of self-discovery. It’s effort. It’s confrontation. And at times, it’s painful.
Because this path isn’t about teaching others the “right” values or finding purpose in tasks handed down from outside. It’s about taking responsibility – fully and without excuses. When things go wrong, there’s no one else to blame. No system. No community. No ideology.
Each of us must take care of our own life – and of how we live with others. Or withdraw, like a hermit, into a shrinking personal territory in an ever more crowded world.
The easiest way out – to lie back in the ready-made bed of collective meaning – is not an option for those who take self-determination seriously.
To be truly free means learning to live with the uncertainty that freedom inevitably brings.
Paths to the Art of Living
Carpe Diem et Noctem invites you to encounter the meaning of life in new ways.
What you’ll find here is not a simple answer – but a multifaceted guide: a system of perspectives drawn from thoughtful, intersecting structures. Whether rooted in philosophical theories of knowledge, relatable stories, existential questions, or concrete life contexts – each framework opens a new path to meaning.
Because those who seek need not only courage, but also pathways that take the act of questioning itself seriously.
Epistemology of the Art of Living
The most immediate approach to the question of life’s meaning leads through an epistemology of the art of living – a philosophy of the good life and of fulfilled existence.
An epistemology of the art of living and the meaning of life
Questions about the meaning of life have always been part of human existence – often shaped by the cultural and social frameworks we are born into. Every community develops shared ideas about life’s purpose, which influence how people live together. Those who think differently are often excluded. In modern democracies, which emphasize individual freedom, this can create tension between collective norms and personal meaning.

But Carpe Diem et Noctem goes further: We also tell our art as a story – inspired by Plato, who developed his ideas almost exclusively in the form of dialogues. Yet we choose the path of metalogues – conversations that not only convey content but also reveal the very structure of thought itself.
And who knows – you might find them not only insightful, but also surprisingly entertaining.

The Stage That Means the World to Us
Theatrum Mundi 42 is the media platform of the Ateliers im Delta, where we bring to life Carpe Diem et Noctem, City of Reason, the Guide for Clever Avant-Gardists, My Christian Testament, and the AiD Editions by Hannah and Ralf Moser.

Metalogues Lead Us to the Meta-Levels of Intellectual Architecture — of life, of art, of culture — and above all, of learning. For neither everyday language nor mere deconstruction is sufficient to bring the cybernetic dynamics of the mind to life. That’s why we’ve developed our own teachings — on the architecture, construction, and realization of intellectual systems. The metalogues from City of Reason and My Christian Testament form their narrative framework.
Here, you’ll find Carpe Diem et Noctem as a story in metalogue form: a guidepost in the world stage of Theatrum Mundi 42.
